ECOTRANCE is a visual and sound installation in the shape of a cluster of LED strobe spheres that read a playlist of audio files processed starting from their own operating noise.
The sculpture branches out of 5 wiring harnesses that feed 20 spheres each. Each section of this piece is activated and de-activated according to a random algorithm within a time range from 1 to 30 minutes, without ever allowing a complete switching on or off of its parts.
The work is conceived as a sort of brain, of artificial organism that is endowed with its own life, having unpredictable developments and progress, of which neither the author nor the audience are responsible.
It proceeds unperturbed in its unstoppable mutation.
Its explicit and inherent variability enables it to tell its story in an ever-changing manner, while managing an endless modulation of variations which, once archived as voices, belong to it as memory-building elements.
Like some species of migrant birds or cetaceans that can sleep with only one brain hemisphere at a time, ensuring breathing and course control, its energy remains tense, in a liminal state. It doesn’t ever sleep or stay awake completely. In a sort of daydream, saturated with the vertigo of a scotoma in a migraine aura, or in hallucination, it lives in a state of trance.

ECOTRANCE is an arabesque speckled with moving colours that soaks walls, display cabinets, the audience, in a syncopated and vaguely hypnotic loop. It is a faded watercolour that brushes all the surfaces of the central room of the museum, whose fossil mouth utters a continuously variating gurgling of sounds.
