Don’t You Lead Me To The Dark is a soundscape created by layering five pairs of speakers that diffuse the same audio track, an excerpt from “Voices of the Night”, a vinyl album of ethological field recording and research, produced by Peter Paul Kellogg and Arthur A. Allen for Albert R. Brand Bird Song Foundation at the Ornithology laboratory of the Department of Conservation, Cornell University.
Published in 1948, this record collects the calls of 34 different species of American and Canadian frogs and toads.

The audio tracks are pure shouting, a jungle of vocatives, of looping sounds.
These animal calls follow one another and repeat themselves, mixing their identities, opening to various free associations, they belong to pre-linguistic, subliminal and atavic structures of communication.
